Au Moyen-Orient, les manifestations populaires ont marqué l’année 2019. Au Liban, en Irak et en Iran, ces manifestations ont mis en exergue les nombreux problèmes économiques, politiques et sociaux auxquels font face ces États.
La population a dénoncé la hausse des prix, le chômage et la corruption, réclamant la chute des régimes en place. Violement réprimées par l’État, les manifestations ont fragilisé la situation sécuritaire déjà instable de ces pays. Mais elles ont également conduit à la démission du Premier ministre en Irak et du chef du gouvernement au Liban.
Dans le golfe Persique, stratégique, entre autres, pour ses ressources énergétiques, les tensions entre l’Iran, l’Arabie Saoudite et les États-Unis ont contribué à fragiliser la navigation et font de l’Irak le théâtre principal des affrontements entre ces puissances.
